Files are in real millimetres. Red = cut, magenta = screw holes (cut), blue = engrave (fill), green = score. Letters and plate are on separate sheets and layers, so you can cut them from different materials. ZIP = every file, plus one file per layer.
Signs you can make
Flat cut-out letters are the everyday sign: each letter is cut on its own from 3–10 mm acrylic, or MDF or ACP, and stuck or screwed to the wall. Letters on a backing plate add a plate cut to a rectangle, rounded rectangle, pill, oval, hexagon or the shape of the text itself, with screw holes and an engraved pocket or score line showing exactly where each letter goes. Nameplates for clinics, homes and offices are one plate with the text raised, engraved or cut through, an optional border and two or four screw holes.
Standoff letters stand off the wall on metal studs: the builder finds the thickest part of each letter for the stud holes and cuts the same holes in the backing plate, so they line up (click a letter to add or remove a hole). Layered letters stack 2 or 3 layers, each a little bigger, with score lines to glue along. Backlit (halo) signs add an LED channel in the backing plate so light glows around each letter, and edge-lit signs are a clear acrylic panel with glowing engraved text, standing in a stacked base with a slot for the LED strip. The stats show how much LED strip you need.
Stencils cut your text out of one sheet for spray painting walls, vehicles and boxes. The builder finds every piece that would fall out (the middle of O, A, B, 8 and Hindi letters) and adds small bridges to hold it. Click a stroke to add a bridge, click a bridge to remove it, or drag it somewhere else.
The builder turns your text into clean outlines straight from the font (never a picture), so edges are smooth at any size. Letters that touch are joined into one piece, Hindi words are welded along their top line, and a stroke weight setting thickens thin fonts so they survive the laser. It warns you when strokes are too thin for your material, when holes inside letters are tiny, when screw holes hit the text and when the parts need more than one sheet. Kerf is added for you so letters fit their pockets.
The 3D tab shows the finished sign in real acrylic, mirror, wood or metal on a wall of your choice (white, brick, marble, wood or a glass shopfront), with glowing LEDs in any colour and a Day/Night switch. Tap Snapshot to save a 1920 × 1080 picture to send your client on WhatsApp.
Start from a ready-made template (clinic nameplate, shop board, office door, Hindi home nameplate, backlit café sign or wedding stencil), add your own SVG logo, and save your signs to open, copy or change later. Enter your own rates per square foot and per foot of LED strip to see an estimate, and download a one-page quote with a drawing of the sign for your client. The ZIP download holds every file plus a separate file for each layer. Want a ready design instead? Browse our laser cutting design files, or make a box with the box generator.
Questions
Can I make a Hindi nameplate?+
Yes. Type in Hindi (Devanagari), English or both. The letters are joined correctly, including conjuncts like श्री and the top line, and each Hindi word is cut as one piece. Pick a Hindi font such as Mukta, Hind or Yatra One, or any font: Hindi words then use Noto Sans Devanagari.
What letter height should I choose?+
Letter height is the height of a capital letter. For a door nameplate 20–40 mm reads well from a few metres; for a shop board, allow about 25 mm of letter height for every 10 metres of reading distance. Keep strokes at least 1 mm thick, or 0.4 × the material thickness, so they cut cleanly; the builder warns you when they are too thin.
What is kerf and what value should I use?+
Kerf is the width your laser beam burns away, usually 0.1–0.2 mm on a CO2 laser. The builder grows each letter by half the kerf and shrinks screw holes by half, so the finished letters are exactly the size you set and fit their engraved pockets.
Which software opens the files?+
SVG, DXF (R12) and PDF files open in LightBurn, RDWorks, CorelDRAW, Inkscape and Illustrator at real size in millimetres. Letters and plate are on separate layers and sheets: red is cut, magenta is screw holes, blue is engrave and green is a light score line.
What size standoff holes do I need?+
Most sign standoffs use an M4 or M5 screw: 4.5 mm holes suit M4 and 5.5 mm suit M5. Small letters get one stud, long letters two or three, placed in the thickest part of the letter. Letters too thin for a hole are listed so you can glue them instead.
How do stencil bridges work?+
A bridge is a thin strip of the sheet left across a letter stroke, so the middle of letters like O, A and B stays attached. The builder adds them automatically, and anything that would still fall out is shown in red. 3 mm bridges suit most stencils; make them wider for thick material.
Can I show my client what the sign will look like?+
Yes. Open the 3D tab, pick the wall and Day or Night, turn the sign to the best angle and tap Snapshot. It saves a 1920 × 1080 picture with a small OutlineHub logo that you can send on WhatsApp. Tick Person for scale to show how big the sign is next to a person.
How do I price a sign?+
Open Cost estimate & client quote under the preview and enter your own rates: per square foot for acrylic, MDF, metal and ACP, per foot of LED strip, plus fitting. Each layer is priced on the size it takes up on the sign, the way sign makers in India quote letters and plates. Your rates stay on your device, and you can download a one-page quote PDF for your client.
Can I add my logo?+
Yes. Upload your logo as an SVG with filled shapes and it is cut, raised or engraved with the letters, to the left of or above the text. If the logo has text in it, convert the text to curves in CorelDRAW or Illustrator first.
Is the signage builder free?+
Yes. Design and preview as many signs as you like. Downloads are free too; you only need a free OutlineHub account.
